  • Don't Leave Home Without It

I refer of course to the American Express. A veritable sea trout killer which was developed by Alun Rees of South Wales. The pattern put simply, tied on very long shank singles or long lightweight tubes just works like nothing else on the rivers that I fish.

    The Dressing

    Tube: Eumer small plastic
    Thread: Black
Rib: Broad silver tinsel tied in close turns
Hackle: Scarlet dyed hen - long fibres
Wing: Black dyed fox squirrel tail overlaid with strands of peacock sword

Great fly and nicely tied LG. Thanks for sharing.

I use a similar body to a lot of my flies - I like the ribbed body as opposed to the solid tinsel. Try either adding a coat of superglue before tying the fur/feathers etc. or use UV resin for an instant result. You'll find that it gives it a great finish that adds to the appeal of the body/fly but also helps protect the body from the fish's teeth.

    TT.
