  • Alternative to braid bodys for snakes

Forgive me if this is old hat,but i only learned of it a week or so ago from a friend.
    But had to share.
30ft beadalon plastic coated wire approx £3.60

8m of 1.6mm metallic yarn (celebrate) approx £3.00
found this stuff while browsing in hobby craft, after ordering some mylar tube both wire and metallic yarn can be found on ebay

place hook onto wire and hold in fingers.

Take cigarette lighter and gently heat wire

this takes barley a second, and you have to be quick once
wire has had sufficient heating quickly hold the two heated bits of wire
    firmly together.
once this is done i challenge any one to break the fused pieces of wire

you can now feed on your metallic yarn as you would with Mylar tube
and mount in vice ready for dressing.

And a couple of finished snake flies

once you have tried this you will never use braid again , Promise

    Thanks
    SB

Very nice SB and a great, clear Step by Step. Thanks for sharing.

I like the idea of wire vs. braid as there is always a chance of cutting through braid when changing the fly, which can't happen with the wire.

    Good job. |\

Hi SB, are you sure you have not been hinding some were in my tying room:>
Been using the wire, and braid for some time. as Steff does say wire is a lot safer then mono braid, will post some of mine later, as i am on my old laptop at the moment. so no pics of my latest flies, but you can see some on my blog.

        Keep up the good work,

        Dai.|\
