View Full Version : Off the mark with a PB
Hi,
Well I'm a very happy bunny.
I managed to fish for 40 minutes last night on the lower Ogmore and a fly I thought up at the last minute came up trumps...
5lb 9oz and due to be smoked for Christmas

Here's the fly:

Chuffed to bits and a huge thanks to all the canny anglers whose knowledge and tips I've drunk in these past few years! :>

Well done JT, thanks a cracker!! & taken in a 40 minute session.
I must say that I would have estimated it at closer to 8lb than 5lb 9oz.
Thanks for sharing that with us.

Fantastic fish, nice one JT! |\ great stuff, and a great way to open the account.
Was talking to another chap a few days ago that dresses tubes on those crimps, never tried it myself. Do you line them JT? he went for some shrink-tube over the top instead.
TT.
Hi,
Yup - they line just as easily as any other form of tube.
I have some really wee brass ones and, my current preference - the nickel plated ones in 3/4" - go up a size and then you start to run into lining problems as the diameter goes up accordingly.
I think they're a bloody revelation when you want to go heavier with a smaller fly without resorting to the bulk of a bottle tube.... and much much cheaper by all accounts.

Where do you get the longer nickel ones from JT? any links? Have had a quick look, but no success as yet.
Thanks.

TT - I'll look up the brand and details for you when I get home Thursday.

Nice Fish JT ,
hows the speycasting coming on ??
Hi Andy,
Looking forward to my week on the Teifi and taking the long rod just in case.
Spey casting is limited to restricted back-casting areas whilst night fishing - alas no salmon trips planned so far this year.
I still have that reel/line of yours - hope you haven't forgotten!
Best regards,
Jon
John ,
reel is not forgotten but its not in any way urgent .
Will try to get you up to the Wye or severn before end of season !
Well I can't think of a nicer place to return it to it's owner.
Cheers Andy - have a great season in the interim!
Jon
Well done JT.
