Fishing in low flow

At the minute the stretch I fish on the Ribble is a few inches below summer height, which for a lot of the pools means very little flow. I fished last night and although I had a nice wild brownie, I never felt confident that my flies were fishing well.

I was casting almost square the majority of the time and working the fly with fig of eight and longer retrieves i.e. trying to speed up the fly in the still water. Is this the best way to fish a slow pool/low flow?

I had some success in low flows last night on an intermediate line and inverted tube double.

The far bank is made of big stacked stones and carries a depth of 4-5 feet, shallowing quickly and i was snagging constantly last week.

Standing at the head I made longer casts down the pool to reduce the drag and keep the fly deeper for longer.

30 mins later my biggest fish on and landed - hadn't thought it would happen.

Nickel sea crimp (0.75") with a thick-ish fox fur wing and inverted BMD hidden in the wing.
