Sorry, it would seem that some of you have been receiving spam messages through the messaging system. When someone registers they are able to send a message to you, but not a private message - this is even before they are a verified member. I then chuck them off rather than enabling them to become a verified member.

I will look at changing the system so that no-one can message you until they become verified members.

There should be no further problems with spam, I've put a pretty good procedure in place to eliminate the problem, or so I hope...
