  • Iceland!

    I'd never been to Iceland, but it certainly held appeal, and why wouldn't it, it is, after all, one of the angling Meccas of the game fishing world.

    In July/August I was lucky enough to visit, but not just visit; this was going to be a tour! I was to circumnavigate the whole island! Taking in several fishing spots as I did. As you can imagine not much thinking time was spent deliberating whether to go or not...

    I passed the kind offer on to a friend of mine, as I had decided to go chub fishing instead. Yeah right!
    Bags packed I was off.

    The tour started on the South of the island taking in some trout streams, sea-trout streams and and some very low salmon rivers. The trout fishing was 'ok', but it was great to catch up with an old friend that was fishing there at the time. The sea-trout fishing; dull! They claimed that the river was the best in Europe for the numbers and size of its sea-trout. Put bluntly; boll0ks! And even if it did produce such runs it presented quite miserable fishing opportunities - to such an extent I didn't even photograph it! There was, however, some decent brown-trout fishing, which were overlooked. Some good sport followed one windless evening, but it was soon on to the next location.

    Disaster! Spate river + no water. There were a few fish held up in the sea pool, but the run above was quite literally an inch deep. No fish would enter the main system. Waste of time. Next.

    By this time I was getting rather despondent; if this was all the great 'Iceland' had to offer then quite simply it could keep it. The rest of the trip, however, was just fantastic, I’m glad to report. I visited the Jokla, Breidalsa, then ended the trip on the Midfjardara, which was just awesome!

    Here are some shots from the trip:

        2. Did you find any of Carmarthenshire County Councils money?? (ps part of my pension pot??{

        Da iawn gyfaill, it looks truly exceptional out there.
