  • Assistance For A Yorkshire River

    Hi Guys:D

Please can I have a little of your time...to write an Email for a good cause.
A new 350k fish pass! ....At Knostrop Weir....River Aire

One benefit: Up and downstream migration of fish including Salmon and Sea Trout of which we are seeing increased numbers year on year but are stranded at this weir until flood conditions of the highest order (near impass limits)

The background: To the South of Leeds is a new development of commercial land totaling billions of pounds.

After a meeting with the developers yesterday (and others) it was agreed that it would be possible to include this fish pass within private sector funding within the confines of the Aire Valley Area Action Plan.

The AVAAP biodiversity objective remit is: To maintain and enhance the function of the river and canal as a major wildlife corridor .
To identify opportunities for habitat creation and enhancement both on land and in water.
To promote a network of habitats throughout the area.

This is the 'tool' but it requires a driver or two....and it WILL be included in the 'Plan'.......if supported.

    What to do.....Please email

    richard.askham@leeds.gov.uk (principal planner for AVAAP).

Stating that as an interested party you would like to see its inclusion in the AVAAP.
You could offer a reason.....asthetics of fish using the pass ..symbolism of regeneration....recreation oppertunity.....its nigh on a fish blockade at the moment for upstream movement

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LOCAL......just interested
And the hard work reaching agreement has been done.....so on to the last few hurdles

Thank you for reading this and bigger THANKS if you actually do something for our rivers.:D:D:D:D
Two things you should have in life...A good bed and a good pair of boots...and if you aren't in one you should be in t'other

Campaign For The Protection Of Welsh Fisheries

I know most of you are aware of the Campaign, so this is just a note to say the official launch, in Cardiff, is being organised, but the Minister is "messing us about". I will publish some of the correspondence after the launch.

      Watch this space.

Thanks for your continued support and interest.
