  • fly box preparation

    Hi all,

I am planning to be doing alot more trout fishing this coming season and would like you're opinions on what I should have in my fly box. If any of you could suggest about half a dozen of your favourite dry, wet and nymph patterns I would be very grateful.

    Many thanks

    Richy

Hi, I stick to a handful throughout the year.
Male and Female Adams, I wouldn't leave the house without these, nearly go all season with this one.
Standard Grey duster and ones with cdc tied flat along the body before badger is tied on.
          Yellow mays.
Standard F-Flies..with reddy brown cock feather tail took a 3.5 lb brownie last season on the upper Tawe.
Olive sparkle dun.. Mike Weavers dressing.
          Kites Imperial..the original dressing.
I just use a goldhead ptn when nymphing.

Hope some of this helps too
          Glyn

My most successful trout fly for rivers and stillwaters is a black nymph tied like a pheasant tail but with black cock hackle instead of pheasant fibres and black seals fur body. It's a versatile pattern as you can add a hot spot of colour in the thorax or add a gold head etc. (much like an original pheasant tail)
