  • how important is a wing on a fly??????

had a bit of a red letter moment last night,{; wasfishing a regular pool through and taking a few fish often to one fly in paticular. changed the leader set up and moved the fly to the dropper and whilst doing the knot i managed to rip off the wing of the fly(b$%^$d).::/ Anyway, only one copy of the fly i had so bravely left the fly(wing missing) on the leader and continued fishing. took another fish and had some pulls to this fly, so....the question is......how important is a wing to a fly?

Personal opinion here only: If it's a full floating dry, very important as the wing provides a goodly portion of the flies visual cross section. If fished in the surface film, or below .... who cares?:?
